Create Piles of Data Pages
This program draws a histogram of the data that you enter. It includes an animation that simulates the process of writing the data on a sheet of paperand then placing the page in a stack of such papers directly over the number on the number line corresponding to the one written on the page. The bars in the histogram are drawn to look like a pile of papers until the last data value is entered. Then the bars are drawn as blue three dimensional bars.
Instructions for Using the Program
Using this program is easy; you simply type the data into the text box and pressing the enter key ahen you are finished typing each piece of data. For instance, if you had ten pieces of data you would press the enter key 10 times, once at the end of typing each piece of data.
You begin by typing the number of data values that you will be entering. When you type that number you press the enter key to record the value. Nothing happens in the appearance of the program because you are only setting internal parameters in the program. You then type in the lowest data value and hit the return key. After that, you type in the largest data value and hot the return key. You then repeat this procedure with the remaining data values. The first number that you type in must be a whole number. If, at this point, you fail to enter a whole number, an alert comes up to remind you of what to do. If at any time you type in an expession that is not a number, an alert will warn you of the problem abd the expression will be erased without being recorded. You will know when you have entered the number of data values that you indicated at the beginng when the histogram is drawn in biue. No further data can be entered on this histogram.
If you entered the wrong number at the beginning, you will have to start over from the beginning. You start over or begin from the beginning with new data by clicking on the new button. When you are done with the program, simply go to another page or quit the browser. Enjoy the animation!
